My grandson Ben, just over 18 months old, sure knows how to get into trouble now that he can walk. One time he walked into my kitchen where he discovered that he could open and close the cabinet doors underneath the kitchen counters. (See photo below.) Oddly enough he did not care too much about what was inside the cabinets. However, what he soon discovered was that he could close the cabinet doors hard by slamming them shut. And he quickly realized that that made a lot of noise ! So what did he then do? He opened and closed the cabinet doors at least two dozen times, and each time he closed a door he slammed it shut because it made a lot of noise which he clearly enjoyed.
However, during Ben’s last visit to my place, he discovered something new to play with in the kitchen – my dishwasher. He was able to reach up and play with the lever that is used to lock and unlock the dishwasher door. His mom then told me that he had just started to do that with her dishwasher. Well, I told her that if he put the lever firmly in the “locked” position, and then if he pushed on the various touch-pad controls, he would probably soon push on the “Start” control. I had hardly said that when in fact the little bugger did that. He had just pushed the lever into the locked position, and then pressed on a touch-pad control which started the dishwasher ! I had washed the dishes the day before, but I had not as yet removed them from the dishwasher and put them away. (Not knowing what to do, I just washed those dishes all over again later that day.)
